Addressing the Transposition Challenge in Virtual Reality: Adaptive Scaffolding for Self-Regulation, Cognitive Load, and Emotions in Education

Guest Editors : Jean-Christophe Sakdavong, Nathalie Huet, André Tricot
Journal : Frontiers in Computer Science
Manuscript Submission Deadline : 31 October 2026

Background: The integration of immersive virtual reality (IVR) in educational contexts marks a substantial shift in learning environments. However, as students transition from traditional physical classrooms to virtual settings, they frequently encounter the “Transposition Challenge,” losing access to familiar self-regulatory supports such as notes, clocks, and peer cues. This regulatory void can elevate extraneous cognitive load and disrupt emotional equilibrium.

This Research Topic aims to advance theoretical and practical approaches that enable learners to better plan, monitor, and reflect within VR-mediated educational ecosystems.

Co-direction : 50% N. Huet (Contrat CDU)
